Accelerated Reader

5th Jan 2018

Each child enrolled on the Accelerated Reader programme has been set a personalised target based on their ability and them reading for at least 20 minutes per day. Silent reading takes place during a timetable slot each day within school but it is equally as important that the children read each evening.

The pupils then complete a comprehension test and will only earn their points if they pass the test. As children move to into KS 2 the focus of reading should become less on decoding words and more about the pupils understanding of the text. At KS2 we are focusing on inference during our comprehension lessons. This is a skill the children need to develop so they can read between the lines.

Children who achieve their Accelerated Reader target will be presented with certificates at the end of this term so please encourage your child.

Accelerated Reader also provides a parents’ link so you can monitor your child’s progress. If you would like to access this, please contact Mrs Dornan and she can give you with your child’s details
